Today town hosts around 300, 000 people, making this the 27th most populous built-up location in England and Wales. It is governed in the area by Plymouth City Council and is also represented nationally by a few MPs. Plymouth’s economy remains to be strongly swayed by shipbuilding, but has developed into more service-based economy since 1990s.
